Alfreda T. Barkley, 62, was called home to the Lord in peace on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 9:50 a.m. at Select Specialty Hospital in Cleveland following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born September 5, 1959 in Cleveland the daughter of the late Arthur L. Sr. and Ruth Fields Whaley and was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Alfreda was a graduate of Shaw High School and was currently employed with the East Cleveland City School District for the last 15 years.

She was a member of Mt. Gillion Missionary Baptist Church.

She enjoyed planting flowers, listening and singing to Gospel Music, baking cakes and helping others.  Mrs. Alfreda especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was a very faithful and good spirited woman.

Left to mourn her passing is her husband of 44 years Mr. Cedric Barkley whom she married on September 9, 1977; three children Ms. Tamara Barkley of Cleveland Heights; Ms. Tashara (Clarence Sanders) Barkley of East Cleveland; and Mr. C. Tyran (Britany) Barkley of Riviera Beach, Maryland; by a sister Ms. Regina Strong of Detroit, MI; by her eight grandchildren Larry Lockett, Clayveon Sanders, Tavareon Sanders, Khalayia Sanders, Arlaun Barkley, Judah Barkley, Bria Barkley, and Uriah Barkley; and by a great grandson London Lockett.  Mrs. Alfreda leaves also to mourn her mother-in-law, Mrs. Geneva Barkley.

Besides her parents, Alfreda was preceded in death by a sister Arthurlene Whaley, and Yolande Whaley Poncey and by two brothers, Moreast Whaley and Arthur  "Skippy" L. Whaley Jr.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Gillion Missionary Baptist Church, 7025 Cedar Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44103.

A Home Going Celebration for the life of Mrs. Alfreda T. Barkley will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022 in the church with Rev. Nathan Nance, Pastor and Teacher as celebrant.

Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg.
