Obituary

Betty (Pedigo) Golden was reunited with her loving husband (Donald Hugh Golden) of 61 years on 8/8/2021.  Betty was born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 10, 1935.

Betty and her mother (Mary), father (Aubrey), and 2 younger brothers (Frank & Paul) moved to Akron, Ohio when she was 10 years old. She attended the Brown Street Church of Christ in Akron, where she met the love of her life, Donald.  They raised their 4 children in the church to provide a strong Christian foundation. They continued to be faithful, following the word of God, and teachings of Christ until their passing.

Blessed with 4 children, Lex, Michele, Bradford, and Danielle, family was the driving force of her life. Betty worked most of her life, predominately in Health Care to help provide a home and money for extra activities for their children. She was an accomplished seamstress, often sewing her own clothes as well as blouses & dresses for her girls.

Betty and Donald enjoyed shopping for antiques, art, and other collectables as well as going to Indy car races. As a family, we enjoyed camping, trips to Niagara Falls, and later in life traveling and vacationing in Florida and Hilton Head Island.

Betty was very proud of her 16 grandchildren. Betty & Donald organized many holiday gatherings. Later when the family got too large, the gatherings were held at State Park Lodges. They also traveled to attend their grandchildren's special events. Betty received great joy viewing photos and hearing the stories about her 16 great-grandchildren.

Betty and Donald moved to Marion, Ohio in 1984. She became an active member of the Board of Elections (first female vice chairman of Marion County Democratic Committee), League of Women Voters, Red Cross, Marion County Human Services, and a Board Member of Handicapped Awareness Association. She was pivotal in campaigning for community causes and State Representatives. Betty ran for Marion County Trustee, and her campaign quote was, "Working to Make Sure Your Voice is Heard". When she lived in Akron, and worked for Akron General Medical Center, she was  an URW union representative. One of her goals was to protect women from losing their job, especially single women, with children.

At the age of 52, Betty attended The Ohio State University, to study social work. Unfortunately, she had to put her education on hold to take care of her aging mother in Tennessee. Betty moved to Hudson, Ohio area approximately 4 years ago to be closer to her children. Betty's health significantly declined this past year. She was able to spend her last couple weeks in the care of her loving children & grandchildren and passed peacefully.

Her services will be held on Friday August, 13, 2021 at Hine Funeral Home. Family will accept guests at 11 am, with the Service at noon. Burial will follow at ~1 pm. In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to the Susan G. Komen, Breast Cancer Foundation.
