Betty M Shone
October 7, 1923-February 10, 2019
Betty Marie Shone (nee Brazie), 95, of Parma, passed away on February 10 at The Gardens of Western Reserve with family by her side comforting her journey home. She was born on October 7, 1923 to Charles and Marie (Deary) Brazie in Cleveland, Ohio. Betty married Bernie on September 15, 1950, and they spent 51 years together enjoying time with family and friends traveling and celebrating life. The skills she learned as a secretary for the government carried over in her life as an organizer and planner. She was active in New Neighbors, AARP, Pipefitters Local 120 Retirees, Craft Club, Red Hats, and her church. In between weekly housecleaning (Blue Ribbon Award for Cleanest House in Parma) and her volunteer work, she helped plan and attend events for friends and family. Her husband, family, and friends always came first, but she made time to enjoy her other true love, traveling, whether throughout America, across the seas, or on short bus jaunts to closer destinations. Her shining smile, captivating personality and kind spirit was adored by many. We learned through the way she lived to tell someone you love them, make time for relationships that matter, never stop exploring, don't take yourself too seriously, live the life that makes sense to you, spend your money having fun, laugh, and if you carry a purse you'll always have something to worry about. And most importantly, there is always room for dessert.
She is survived by her daughters Carol (Steve) Griffen and Linda (John) Basalyga; her grandchildren Lindsay, Courtney, and Ryan Basalyga and Todd and Michael Griffen as well as great grandchildren Landon and Cameron Griffen. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 10:30-11:30 with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:30 at Blessing-Hine Funeral Home, 8592 Darrow Road. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Betty's name be made to Gardens of Western Reserve Hospice, 3792 State Road, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223, for the wonderful care they provided mom during her need.
God saw that you were getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you
And whispered, "Come home with me."
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating
A determined spirit was at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the "best."
