Dearie Yvonne McNair… amazing wife, loving mother, beloved sister, adored grandma and great grandma, beautiful daughter, caring aunt, cherished godmother, trusted friend, woman of God and heroine was born on June 1, 1951 in Warren Ohio, to the late Charles and Dearie (Hughes) Yates. Dearie, a.k.a. Vonnie, was called home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2019, at 11:30pm at Heartland Rehabilitation Facility in Twinsburg, OH.
Vonnie was tenacious! She embodied strength, beauty, and grace throughout her entire life. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and was always ready to praise God. She offered up a heart felt worship that touched both God and those around her, whether at church, at home, or even in her hospital room. She was a praying mother, who would often say, "Baby… Prayer doesn't just change things. Prayer changes EVERYTHING!!!"
She loved and was devoted to The Sanctuary of Praise and the church's family. She was filled with the Holy Ghost there on December 3, 1995 and she never looked back. In her 23 years with the church she held many offices. She was a member of the Adult Bible Bowl Team, choir, Women's Ministry, and Kitchen Ministry. She was also an usher, head of the nurse's guild, on the Agape Committee, worked in the day care, and much much more.
Vonnie met the love of her life Robert (Bob) McNair in October of 1976. They were married on April 29, 1977 and to this union were seven sons, and one daughter, Barbara-Angela, who preceded them in death.
Bob and Vonnie loved to hit the road and drive hundreds of miles with their boys in one of their many motor homes. They especially loved traveling down to "The Hill" in Mount Olive, Mississippi to spend time with family in the summers. Vonnie continued her love of travel after Bob passed with her sons and friends as they accompanied her to L.A., D.C., the Bahamas, Cozumel, and many more places.
Vonnie was a dear friend to those around her. She loved to spend time reminiscing with her friends and sisters on the phone, praying with each other, playing scrabble, and just laughing with a hearty laugh that was guaranteed to brighten the day of anyone listening.
Vonnie leaves to cherish her memory seven sons: Robert III, Gregory (Margie), Ray (Shaleasha), Brian (Jason), Matthew (Glenda), Daniel (Veronica), and Aaron. Vonnie was also a devoted grandmother of 15, great-grandmother of 9, and godmother to Brandi James.
Vonnie was a dear sister to Anthony Yates, Martin Yates, Janice Yates, Ethel Yates, Suzy Yates, and Charita Jackson. She was preceded in death by her siblings Phillip Yates, Oliver Joseph Yates, Richard Yates, Charles Theodore Yates, Sylvia Bailey, and Cynthia Simmons.
Vonnie, you were an inspiration to us all. We will always love you and cherish our time together. Til we meet again.
We love you!!
