Dorothy C. (Dottie) Schrum age 64 died at home with the support of loving family, friends and Summa Hospice services. Dottie was preceded in death by her life partner of thirty years, Carlla R. Shaw. She is survived by her sisters, Donna Klippert of Phoenix, Arizona, Jana (Jim) Caplinger of Uniontown, Sheryl (Jeff) Kline of Cuyahoga Falls, special cousin, Julianne Dixon of Bayfield, Colorado; she has one niece and three nephews. She is also survived by her partners family Jack Shaw of Georgia, Mike (Alana) Shaw of Georgia, Kate (Dave) Fox of Aurora and Tim (Sarah) Shaw of Texas. Both Carlla and Dottie are survived by their devoted furry family member, Tess Trueheart. Dottie also leaves many professional colleagues who will miss her ready smile and her "family" of close friends who loved her dearly. An employee of Summit County Board of Development Disabilities for 38 years, Dottie began as a teacher and culminated her career as Assistant Superintendent. Her passion was the development of quality programs and services for people with disabilities, including early intervention and many viable community support services that continue to this day. In her early years, Dottie enjoyed softball, cycling, volleyball, hiking and camping. More recently, she studied several of the Martial Arts, became a patron of numerous animal organizations and travelled to Egypt, a trip she described as one of the highlights of her life. She was also an avid golfer, enjoyed reading and a nice chilled glass of Pinot Grigio. Dottie will be remembered as a loving sister, generous friend and colleague who found her greatest joy from the opportunity to meet, work with and bring smiles to those around her.
