Obituary

Frances Evan Shellenbarger died unexpectedly on July 15, 2019 at the age of 91 ending a long and wonderful life. Born on October 4, 1927 in Chicago, IL, she was the oldest of eight children.  As a child she moved to Winburne, PA with her family where she graduated from Cooper Township High School in 1945.  She moved to Cleveland, OH in 1947 and initially worked at Cleveland Wooster Mills and later, at DeLong Trucking.  It was at DeLong that she met and married Clyde Shellenbarger on September 27, 1956.

A member of St. Timothy's Church (now called Holy Spirit) in Garfield Heights, she was a Eucharist Minister, a member of the Holy Name Society, and prepared the weekly church bulletin for many years.  She was well known for the delicious bakery items she often donated to the church and also volunteered as a "Martha" - the ladies responsible for cleaning the church.  In her younger years, she loved being a member of a championship bowling team and enjoyed boating, fishing, and camping with her family.  In addition to her delicious baking, she gardened, crocheted, read, completed crosswords puzzles, and faithfully rooted for the Cleveland Indians.  She avidly continued those activities until her death.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew & Elizabeth (Kushner) Evan, her husband, Clyde, and her son, George.  Also preceding her in death were her siblings Andrew Evan, Mary Luka, and Catherine Raney.  She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Block (Jerry), grandchildren Michael Carey (Sarah) & Erin Carey (Travis Crum) and great-grandchildren, Nolan & Hadley Crum and Emmersyn Carey.  Also surviving are her brother, George Evan (Arlene) and sisters, Barbara Sounhein (Mike), Betty Ponzetti (Paul), and Caroline Ramsey.

She loved her family with her whole heart and was truly kind to everyone she encountered. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious smile that lit up her whole face.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be truly missed by all.
