Obituary

Glenford R. Smith, 88 , of Twinsburg passed away on July 1, 2023 at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield, Ohio.


Glenn was born in Smithville, Ohio on May 30, 1935 to Joseph and Edith Smith.  Glenn attended Smithfield High School and was a member of many sport teams representing the school. He especially enjoyed playing defense on the high school football team. Glenn was also a weight lifter and competitive body builder in his younger years. After graduating high school,  Glenn joined the United States Army and bravely fought for our country in the Korean War. Once his service time was completed, he went to work at the Chrysler corporation in automation.  Being the team player he had always been, Glenn joined the bowling league and the traveling bowling team with Chrysler. Glenn also enjoyed showing horses, riding them in parades and horse racing. He was a member of Transforming Faith Baptist church in Chattanooga TN and a member of the Masons. In his later years, Glenn was known for his great love of children and for playing his lottery numbers.


Glenn leaves a large and loving family to share his memory. He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Vivian, with whom he was very much in love; and his children, Donnie of Ohio, Ronnie of Kent, Ohio, Kevin, of Akron, Ohio and Kim Smith of Ohio; other children Kenneth of Kent, Ohio, Ronald (Kelley) of Columbus, Ohio and Anthony Rall of Greensboro, North Carolina, for whom Glenn was also a father; Godson Ayden Houston of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Glen became a grandfather at an early age and enjoyed every moment with the children in his family.


Glenn is also remembered by his sister Valjean Peterson and Sharon Smith; brothers, Gaylord and Randolph (Dolores) Smith; sisters in law, Rosie Campbell and Sherrie (Mulberry) Lardell; brothers in law, George (Debbie) Mitchell Jr and Charlie Mitchell.
Besides his parents, Glenn was preceeded in death by his children Glenn Jr, Debbie, Glenda and Terry; brothers, Conrad, Charles and Sheldon; sister, Sandra Joann Young; sister in law, Dorothy Watson; and brother in law Clinton Campbell Sr.


The family will honor Glenn's life in a funeral ceremony at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 8592 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087 on Saturday, July 22 at 1:30 pm with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors prior to the ceremony, from 12-1:30 pm.
