Obituary

James Louis "Jim" Hyka, 87, of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020. Jim was born
July 3, 1933, the son of Joseph and Gertrude, nee Kothera, Hyka (deceased). Also predeceased by former
wife Dororthy Hyka, nee Tomazin, mother of his three children. Jim is preceded in death by his eldest
son, Jeffrey Hyka.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, nee McVay/Barlow, daughter Joyce Piteo (Joseph) and son, David. He
was also the proud grandfather of Brandon (Jillian) and Sarah Piteo, Christopher Hyka, and Josh Barlow
and great-grandfather of Meredith Piteo, Madison and Jacob Hyka, and Raylin and Greyson Barlow. Jim
spent many years working as an electrician before spending the rest of his career as an Inspector for the
City of Cleveland. He was a member of the IBEW. He loved all kinds of music, especially classical, jazz,
and rock. He and Nancy travelled often both domestically and abroad in Europe. Jim was an avid builder
of free-flight model airplanes and a long-time member of the Cleveland Free Flight Society. He proudly
served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and lived with the mantra; Once a Marine always a
Marine! He lived a vibrant life and will be missed by many.
