Josephine "Esther" (nee Nagode) Podboy, 91, of Twinsburg, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019, at South Pointe Hospital. She was born on September 3, 1927, daughter of George and Josephine (Cesen) Nagode in Cleveland, Ohio. Esther was a graduate of Collinwood high school. She married Alvin M. Podboy on August 2, 1946. She was the proud mother of four boys
She worked at Podboy's Tip Toe Inn and in the 1970s with her husband, owned Podboy's Golden Finger Saloon in Parkman Township. Later, as a EKG technician, she retired from the former Richmond Heights Hospital.
Esther is survived by her children, Alvin (Mary Ann) of Aurora, Robert (Jacqueline) of Parkman, Anthony (Robyn) of Poland, and Gary (Darlene) of Burton; cherished grandmother of Allison Rajakumar, Melissa Podboy, Derek Podboy, Devin Podboy, Alex Podboy, Nate Podboy, Robert Podboy Jr., Laura Burch, and David Podboy; great-grandmother of 3 great-granddaughters and 6 great-grandsons, and beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Rudy L. Nagode, and her husband, Alvin.
Throughout her life, Esther was active in the community, some examples are: the Ohio University Mothers Club, a founding member of the Parkman Chamber of Commerce, staff reporter for the Buckeye News & Review weekly column "What's Happening in Parkman," Geauga Democratic Women's club and poll worker, past President and secretary of Geauga Licensed Beverage Association, past President of the Slovenian Society Home in Euclid, past President of the of the Fairport Harbor Slovene Retirees Club, and Treasurer of SNPJ Lodge Loyalties. She was named the Business Person of the Year at the Slovenian Society in 2001.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Arrangements were entrusted to Blessing-Hine Funeral Home.
