Larry T. Shaffer, 79, of Stow, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in the comfort of his own home with his wife by his side under the comforting care of hospice.
He was born October 4, 1942, in Akron, the son of the late Gerald D. and Roberta M. Donnelly Shaffer and was a lifelong area resident.
Larry was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, where he played Football. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Kent State University, while working on the Squad at Goodyear. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
A veteran of the United States Army, Larry served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968 as a pay specialist with the 5th Administration Company, 5th United States Army and received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged on October 11, 1968.
After returning from the service, Larry was owner and operator of the Akron Auto and Truck Tire Center for more than 30 years. He was also a member and past president of the Cuyahoga Falls Rotary Club.
He and his wife, Peggy, traveled extensively locally and abroad which allowed them to share great memories throughout life. They were both proud supporters of Kent State University Music and Athletic Departments, which allowed them to travel and support the KSU football team and the Kent/Blossom Music Festival.
In retirement, Larry volunteered as a park Ranger with the Cuyahoga Valley National Parks.
Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Margaret "Peggy" Shaffer whom he married on July 31, 1965; and by a brother Lyn Shaffer of Stow.
A caring cremation is being taken care of by the Hine Funeral Home, Twinsburg.
Entombment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg.
Mrs. Shaffer would like to thank Veteran Affairs, Dr. Jeannette Porubovich-Mizenko and her assistant Nurse Susan Kutolowski for all of their care that they gave to Larry over the years and to Hospice of the Western Reserve for all of their compassionate and loving care and for making Larry's final days peaceful and rewarding in the comfort of his own home.

Caring and Professional Arrangements for the Shaffer family have been entrusted to the care of the Hine Funeral Home, Twinsburg.
