Loretta Helen Root (née Bauer), 81, of Garfield Heights, passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of her husband, Wayne Root.
Born on December 26, 1944, in Berea, Ohio, Loretta was the cherished daughter of Jerome and Theresa Bauer. She grew up with a strong sense of family, community, and dedication—values that guided her throughout her life.
Loretta devoted much of her career to serving the children of her community, working as a full-time bus driver for Berea City Schools from 1974 until her retirement in 2000. She brought joy, laughter, and warmth to every child and parent she met along her route. Known for her fun-loving spirit, Loretta delighted in creating memorable moments, whether it was sharing holiday treats, dressing in playful Halloween costumes, or spreading cheer during the school year. Her presence was always a source of comfort and happiness.
A woman of honesty, integrity, and quiet strength, Loretta offered unwavering support to her family and friends. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a caring sister. Her kindness, guidance, and wisdom shaped the lives of those she loved, leaving an indelible mark on her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Root; her daughters, Charolette Kuchta (Raymond) and Heather Watts (Shane); her son, Duane Root (Hope); her cherished grandchildren, Cameron Kuchta (Nina), Tristan Watts, and Madison Rex (Nathan); her sisters, Theresa and Dolores; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Loretta was preceded in death by her siblings John, Jerry, Rose, and Mary, and by her grandson, Kyle, whose memory she held dear.
Family and friends are invited Visitation and funeral ceremony will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 8592 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087. Visitation from 12 – 1 pm. Service at 1 pm. Interment to follow immediately after service at Crown Hill Cemetery. Loretta’s warmth, laughter, spunkiness and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kyle Strong: Mental Health and Suicide Awareness.
