Marion Ida Skala (nee Filko) of Lyndhurst, OH, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020 surrounded by family. Marion was 92. She was born on May 5, 1928 in Cleveland, OH to George G. Filko & Clara Weber Filko Bertschinger Wendell. Marion was preceded in death by her husband Joseph G. Skala, brother George G. Filko Jr. (WWII - Iwo Jima), and sister Eleanor Larsen. Marion graduated from John Adams High School. She enjoyed an active life with the Swiss Singers/Ladies Aid/Turners/Dramatic Club, Fossil Society, Sokol Org., as one of the founding mothers of the Cleveland La Leche League, and faithful member of South Euclid-Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Marion was happiest spending time with immediate and extended family. She will be greatly missed for her kind heart and loving nature. Marion will be most remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Marion is survived by her brother Kurt (Renee) Bertschinger, Dale (Bonnie) Bertschinger, George W. Filko, Kevin (Patty) Filko, Vicki (Jim) Hanrahan, children Karen (Ken) Buck, Laura (Tom) Vassallo, William (Kim) Skala, Charles Skala, Meg (Jeff) Souza; grandchildren Keith Buck, Kevin (April) Buck, Sean (Kacey) Shapiro, Heidi Shapiro, Adam (Tracy) Skala, Gina (Tom) Cox, Jennifer (Jeff) Buckey, Amy (Steve) Baird, and 13 great-grandchildren. A private service will be held on June 11th. At a later date TBA there will be an open memorial and internment of ashes at Crown Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to La Leche League International in memory of Marion Skala via www.llli.org/donate/
