Obituary

Martha Marty'' Ellen Sisson Tracy passed away the evening of October 18, 2014, at age 92, at Aurora

Manor, in Aurora, Ohio, after a short illness. Marty was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 14, 1922,

to the late Ethel Julia (Yetts) Sisson and Ralph Lawrence Sisson. She was preceded in death by her

loving husband of 69 years, Robert James Jim'' Tracy. She is survived by her son, Robert Douglas

(Deborah) Tracy of New Albany, Ohio, and daughters Barbara (John) Stratton of Miami, Florida; Janet

(Robert) Wenzel of Port Charlotte, Florida; Carol (Bill) Fancher of Dallas, Texas, and Jeanne (Penn)

Davidson of Orange Beach, Alabama. Marty''s family moved to Toledo, Ohio, in 1923. She attended

elementary and high school in Toledo, graduating from Toledo Libbey. She graduated from the

University of Toledo, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She married Jim in New

York City, on January 4, 1944, just before he left to serve overseas during WWII. After college

graduation, she taught high school in Bellevue, Ohio, until the war ended and Jim returned to begin

raising their family. Jim''s long career with Standard Oil of Ohio took the family to Ann Arbor,

Worthington, Cleveland and Portsmouth before settling in Columbus for many years. A relocation to

Chagrin Falls in 1968 was followed by a retirement move to Aurora in 1994. Marty was a proud

Daughter of the American Revolution. She enjoyed reading, gardening, family gatherings in Sanibel,

vacations and retirement trips to England and other world destinations. A talented artist, she was

known for her wreaths and pine cone and gourd creations, which she always shared with family and

friends. In Sanibel she was known as the basket lady'', who taught many children how to make baskets.

She was a people-person extraordinaire with a knack for making instant friends everywhere she went.

She and Jim were devoted members of The Church in Aurora. Marty leaves seven loving grandchildren;

four great-grandchildren; nephews Larry Jordan, Robert Squire and David Squire; dear family friends,

Ruth, Tom and David Cooksey in the UK, and countless other friends. A public memorial service will be

held at The Church in Aurora November 15, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a reception at

the church. A private burial service will be held November 14, 2014, at the Ohio Western Reserve

National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be considered

to The Church in Aurora, 146 South Chillicothe Road, P.O. Box 244, Aurora, Ohio 44202. The family

wishes to thank the many friends, caregivers and family who offered support and condolences.
