Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Hlad, 93, of Macedonia, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025.

Mary was born on January 7, 1932, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, to the late Louis Maringolo and Antionette Cortesse. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Hlad; her grandson, Jason Abercrombie; her parents and all her siblings.

Mary was the loving mother of Thomas (Christine) Hlad, Pamela Hlad, and Edward (Nancy) Hlad; cherished grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Very early, Monday morning, dear Mom went to be with her Savior! Mom went peacefully in her sleep at home, as she wanted. Mom lived her life for The Lord. She was a loving, kind, gentle, godly Mother, who poured herself into her family, countless others and served faithfully, with Dad, at Bethlehem Baptist Church for 50 years! When the church doors were open we were there as a family. Though in her later years Mom could not get out to church, she would faithfully watch her sons preaching on their church Live Streams.

Once Dad retired, Mom and Dad went to the mission field as short-term missionaries, helping in any way they could. They served in missions at home, in the USA, and overseas.

Mom was known for her warm hospitality, her servant's heart, her love for people, and for her amazing homemade Spaghetti and Meatballs that she made hundreds of times over the years! Mom would make it by request for her family, and also as a ministry- inviting people over, feeding them, listening, and encouraging them in their lives and walk with The Lord!

All the grandkids and great grandkids loved their "Nana" so much!! Nana made sure that she learned how to use Facebook, so that she could stay connected with all her grandkids! She shared stories and photos of her life, and always pointed them to Jesus! Nana always made sure that each and every one of them felt loved and special.

Mom was almost 94 and was faithful to the end! What a lifetime of precious memories for all of us as family! We will miss you deeply, Mom, but we are so thankful that you are whole and with your Savior and your loved ones in Heaven.

Love you, Mom/Nana!!
