Nancy Emilie Kolodgy
October 17, 1935 – September 18, 2025
Nancy Emilie Kolodgy passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 89, following complications from a fall.
Born on October 17, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Laslo. She graduated from John Adams High School and went on to earn her degree from Dyke & Spencerian College in 1955. When she entered the workforce, she began as a secretary in the Hudson High School Guidance Office, later worked as a secretary for Kelly Springfield, and spent the most satisfying part of her career as an executive secretary at TRW, where she completed her working career.
Nancy was deeply involved in her community and generously dedicated her time and talents to many meaningful causes. She compiled and edited the Nordonia PTA Newsletter, contributed to the Hudson Garden Club's publications, and skillfully repaired donated clothing for Akron Pregnancy Services. She also put her sewing and knitting talents to use by making caps for newborns at a local hospital and creating doll clothes for children undergoing cancer treatment. In addition, she transcribed sermons for Pastor Alistair Begg and was active in Friends of the Hudson Library. A lifelong learner and enthusiastic participant in community life, Nancy took part in various book and card clubs over the years. At the age of 85, she even founded and led a weekly Mahjong group for seniors in her community.
Her personal interests included gardening, creating stained glass art, needlepoint, scrapbooking, cross-stitch, making greeting cards, knitting, and had a passion for solving crossword puzzles—activities through which she expressed her creativity and patience.
Among her most treasured memories were hosting family gatherings and playing games, hiding the Christmas pickle for the grandkids to find, organizing countless Easter egg hunts, and enjoying sunny "Snowbird" Florida getaways with Bob. These joyful traditions brought her immense happiness and created lasting memories for her family.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Kolodgy. She is survived by her children: Charles Straka (Elaine), David Straka (Barbara), Douglas Straka (Melinda), and Susan Alberson (Duane); as well as stepchildren: Robert Kolodgy Jr. (Kathleen), Peter Kolodgy (Cheryl), and Susan Kubick (Dan).
She was a devoted grandmother to Charlie (Jessica), Stephen (Shana), Leah (Syris), Alli (Talon), Eric, Adam (Elizabeth), Jessica (Dylan), Jake (Kristy), Matt, Megan (Scott), Patti (Melissa), Emily (Brad), Mary, Kristen (Andrew), Samantha (Jeff), Tim (Melanie), and a proud great-grandmother to many great-grandchildren. Her love, humor, and presence will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
A woman of faith, Nancy was a longtime believer and member of Parkside Church, and more recently, Parkside Kent.
She will be remembered for her strength and devotion to her family. Her legacy of service and community involvement lives on in the many lives she touched.
A private family service will be held in her honor.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to Akron Pregnancy Services in memory of Nancy.
