Phyllis v. ( nee Contessa) Cracolici (1923-2015)
HUDSON, OH-Phyllis Cracolici, 91, resident of Laurel Lake Retirement Center, died peacefully
on Monday, March 23, after a long term battle with illness.
Phyllis was born on November 8, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was the middle daughter to John
and Mildred (Potenza) Contessa. She grew up in Brooklyn, graduating from Girl's Commercial
High School and later married Thomas Cracolici, in 1950. They moved to Oceanside, N.Y. in
1955 where they spent the next 54 years raising a family and enjoying life on Long Island before
moving to Hudson in 2009 to be closer to family.
In addition to being an excellent Homemaker, Phyllis would become a hospital volunteer and
later an aid at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, N.Y. where she would enjoy
working for over 20 years while helping and comforting those within the hospital setting.
She later carried on that desire to help others by participating and volunteering in the Tender
Loving Care Program where she would visit those in need of company and comfort at Laurel
Lake.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father John, mother Mildred and sister Marie. She is
survived by her loving husband of 65 years Tom as well as her youngest sister Dorothy Larezzo,
oldest son Anthony and his wife Tam along with grandsons Tom, Joseph and Nathan; and her
son John and his wife Kathy along with grandsons Christopher and Johnny.
She was an excellent self-taught cook, who excelled at many types of culinary creations. She
also loved to bake and garden. She loved taking long walks with her husband Tom on the
boardwalk in Long Beach, N.Y. and in later years traveling and discovering new places to
explore.
A special thank you to the staff of Laurel Lake Crown Center and Retirement Center as well as
to Crossroads Hospice for the care and love they provided during Phyllis' difficult battle with
her illness.
