Robert Thomas Marchese passed away on March 14, 2023 at the age of 93 in Aurora, OH.  Known as "Tom" to everyone, he spent most of his childhood living across the street from his youngest sister's best friend, Shirley, who had a crush on him since she was 14 years old. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, Tom and Shirley began dating and were married for 68 wonderful years.

Tom was a rare commodity in the Marchese family being the only son of four children.  Tom was predeceased by two of his sisters, Eda and Peg, and is survived by his sister, Carol.  Continuing the family "tradition", Tom and Shirley had three daughters of their own, April, Jamie (deceased), and Heather.  April then went on to adopt two daughters.    Tom often joked that he needed a male cat just to balance the scales a little bit.  Tom is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their children.

A brilliant and logical thinker, Tom obtained his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Technological Institute.  He worked as an engineer until he retired, being awarded several patents as his career progressed. Tom's favorite activities included spending time with his family, and doting on, and teasing, his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.  He and Shirley also loved working in the yard, creating beautiful landscapes around their homes.  In their later years, they developed a love of travel, visiting many US cities and Europe.  Paris was a special place to them and, to quote Tom, "had the best gelato".

Tom was loved by many and was often seen as a mentor, providing sage advice and guidance when needed.  His quiet strength and witty sense of humor will be remembered by all, as will his thoughtfulness and kindness to others.

A memorial service is being planned.
