In the afternoon of Friday, February 7, 2020, Ruby Joy Schofield (nee Vandall) passed away peacefully at American House in Macedonia, Ohio. She was born May 11, 1929, the daughter of Thurmond Richard Vandall and Ella Susan Vandall (nee Henderson) in the coal mining town of Boomer, West Virginia.
In 1951, her best friend Carolyn Schofield introduced her brother Lloyd to Ruby when he was home on leave from the Army. After knowing each other 10 days, they became engaged. She flew to Tacoma, Washington where Lloyd was stationed at Fort Lewis and they were married December 20, 1951.
Ruby was active in her church, the Bedford Church of the Nazarene. Lloyd and Ruby were members for over 60 years. During this time, she worked in nursery and children's ministry, sang in the choir, arranged church funeral dinners, and was a church greeter. She knew no strangers and loved getting to know people. Ruby had the ability to make everyone feel important and that each one was loved. She was a faithful Christian and lived her life with joy in knowing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Lloyd E. Schofield, Jr., her son Gary Ray Schofield (Shawn) of Chesterland, Ohio, her daughter Kathy Lane Lott (Doug) of Olathe, Kansas, grandchildren Kendra Katz, David Lott, Lloyd Schofield III, Samantha Tader and 5 great-grandchildren (one on the way) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her 3 brothers, Preston Vandall, Joseph Vandall (otherwise known as Billy) and T.R. Vandall.
The family of Ruby Schofield would like to express gratitude to the many friends that supported Ruby and Lloyd throughout her illness, the Hospice of the Western Reserve and American House for their extraordinary kindness and loving care.
A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Bedford Church of the Nazarene, 365 Warrensville Center Road, Bedford, Ohio. Her funeral is scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 11:00 am with visitation preceding at 10:00 am, also at Bedford Church of the Nazarene followed by internment at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg, Ohio.
Although flowers are appreciated, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Lloyd and Ruby Schofield Ministerial Scholarship, MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation, 2030 East College Way, Olathe, Kansas 66062 (www.mnu.edu/give) or The Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44110 (www.hospicewr.org)
