Russell Audly Harley , 86 passed away on February 1, 2021.
Russell A. Harley was born June 19, 1935 in Twinsburg, Ohio to the parents of Grace and Russell Harley. He grew up with a very strong spiritual foundation. He graduated from Twinsburg High School.
In September 1954 – 1958, he honorably served his country, in the United States Navy. He served in Spain, Sicily, Greece, Crete, Italy and Lebanon.
After serving his country, he traveled to Israel. He was employed with Alcoa.
Russell had a loving, caring and giving heart. He not only spoke love, he lived it and showed it. He would gladly give of himself to family and friends, with a smile, helping them in so many different ways.
Russell impacted the lives of his nieces and nephews in many positive ways. When talking with them, he would give them good and solid advice. They knew they could go to him if they had questions, needed help, or just wanted to talk. He would take time with them, letting them know that they were special. He always wanted them to do their best, be respectful, positive and successful. He would take some of them to church with him and their grandma almost every Sunday.
He had a way of helping them with their school work, and special projects yet still making them laugh. He also helped some in deciding which school they attended. He would give them work to do and pay them, including cutting grass. He helped teach some of them how to drive and to work on cars. He also helped some of them in purchasing cars.
Russell would spend fun times with them, taking them to the zoo, circus, horse shows, car shows, inside movie theatres, drive-in movies, restaurants, ice cream stands, Euclid Beach Park, Geauga Lake Park, and many other places. They knew that he truly loved and cared about them. They loved him too.
In 1979, he moved to California, where he worked as truck driver and also at the Bulk Mail Center, in Richmond, CA. He would travel to many states visiting family.
David's Memories – Uncle Russell has been a father figure to me at times in my life, a big brother figure and a friend. He took me into his home at age 15 and allowed me to attend Chamberlin High School under his guardianship. He provided and let me pick my own clothes for school. He took me to Cleveland, Ohio to visit Aunt Janice and my cousins every weekend. Uncle Russell came to some of my football games, in Canton, Ohio. He loaned me his car when I needed transportation to get to work. He transported me to Sacramento, CA every Sunday and returned to pick me up the following Friday. Uncle Russell has been in my life a great deal of the time. I am very thankful for having Uncle Russell in my life.
Russell is preceded in death by mother, Grace Harley; father, Russell Harley; brothers, Morton, Howard, Earl, Milton, William, Charles, Arnold, Raymond and Elmer; sisters, Janet and Ella.
His memories will be treasured by; brother, David M. Harley (Ohio) and special nephew, David A. (Essie) Harley (California) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all that loved him!
