Obituary

Samuel Boswell, an extraordinary man who lived a beautifully ordinary life, passed away July 9, 2022. He was 70 years old. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Elizabeth (Kurt) Falke, and three grandchildren, Gigi, Charlie, and his namesake, Sammy.

Sam – or "Sammy", as his wife was prone to introducing him – was an accountant through and through. He loved numbers, actually enjoyed doing taxes (for himself and others), and never met a spreadsheet he didn't like. He recently retired from LaserShip, where his colleagues described him as "Samta" and "the best boss ever".

Sam loved tending his plot in the community garden, often producing more tomatoes than any reasonable person could be expected to consume in a lifetime, let alone a single summer. Last summer, he shared his garden with his grandson, allowing Charlie to grow some corn specifically for popping. It was delicious, even if the harvest only produced a single edible stalk.

Sam was an ever-present father – in the '90s, he never missed a swim meet or dance recital. He and his daughter, Elizabeth, shared a passion for Duke basketball, celebrating victories and commiserating over the (rare) defeats. Over the years, they enjoyed traveling to watch their Blue Devils play; the team never lost with them in the stands.

To his wife of 46 years, Sam was a near-constant companion. They shared a love of Disney World, where they'd honeymooned in the '70s and returned nearly a dozen times in the years that followed, sometimes just the two of them, sometimes joined by their family, and once with a picture of their daughter in hand. They spent frequent vacations at the beach, joined by long-time friends Sandy and Bob Brodbeck, where Sam rarely (if ever) got in the water or left the shade.

Sam became a Catholic in his final days, and was buried at Crown Hill Cemetery on July 14, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you remember Sam by doing something he often did – being generous. Sam enjoyed leaving oversized tips for good service at many of he and his wife's favorite restaurants. Next time you sit down to a good meal, leave a little extra for your server, and know that Sam's smiling down.
