Sharon Tru Murphy
11/7/1949- 9/9/17
Sharon Murphy passed away on September 9, 2017 at the age of 67 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born in Pittsburgh, PA to parents Lillian T. Davis and Andrew Kier (A.K.) Johnson.
Sharon graduated from Bethel Park High School in 1967 and then completed her degree from Slippery Rock University in 1971. In the summer of 1974 a long-time friendship blossomed into a 43 year marriage with the love of her life, John Murphy. Sharon initially dedicated herself to helping others, serving as a social worker with the Department of Welfare in Pittsburgh. In 1978 John and Sharon started their family with Kier, followed by Amanda in 1981. John's work moved them to Richfield, Ohio in 1988 where Sharon then pursued a degree from the University of Akron in Education and began a long career as a high school teacher. In 1999 Sharon earned also her Master's Degree in Education. Sharon spent over 20 years at Bedford High School teaching Home Economics, but her true passion was a career training program she developed at Bedford Community Hospital for students with special needs. Sharon had a gift of always putting others needs in front of her own and dedicated herself to her family and friends. Anyone who visited the Murphy home was treated as family, and often welcomed for dinner. Sharon's greatest joy was her grandchildren, Sam, Cecelia, Emma, Henry, Ryleigh, and Cameron. She could often be found making keepsakes with her sewing machine, preparing meals for family parties, and decorating her house for the nearest holiday, all to see her grandchildren smile. We will all miss her caring spirit, her loving guidance, and her warm smile that could light up any room.
Sharon is survived by husband, John; children, Kier (Kelly) and Amanda (Dylan) Childs; Mother, Lillian Davis; 6 grandchildren; brother, Bill (Lisa) Davis; sister-in-laws Patricia (Buzzy) Bitar and Marilyn (Robert) Stokes; and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Bath United Church of Christ on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 1:00pm with reception to follow.
