Shirley Jean Marchese passed away at the end of April 2023 at the age of 88 in Aurora, OH. Known as "Shell" to many in the family, Shirley spent most of her childhood living across the street from her best friend. She developed a crush on her best friend's older brother, Tom, at age 14 and they began dating after his military service. They were married for 68 wonderful years.

Just six weeks before Shirley, in March of 2023, Tom passed away. She is also predeceased by her younger brother, Edward. Shirley and Tom had three daughters, April, Jamie (deceased) and Heather. April went on to adopt two daughters who were Shirley and Tom's cherished grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their children.

In the early years of their marriage, Shirley worked while Tom completed his engineering degree. Aside from saying how beautiful Shirley was, Tom often expressed how grateful he was for her support while he went to college, and credited Shirley for the amazing life they enjoyed together. Once Tom was working, Shirley dedicated herself to raising their children, juggling the school activities and artistic demands of her three daughters as they grew into young adults. Following Tom's retirement, Shirley shifted gears to supporting her granddaughters, helping to teach them to read, and proudly attending (with Tom) their various school, athletic, and artistic events.

Despite being busy, Shirley was inspired to make the family homes into wonderful places to live and gather. It took some convincing, but Tom eventually recognized Shirley's talent for decorating and followed her lead on their projects. She frequently hosted parties and celebrations, despite her consistent track record for rain (no matter what the weather forecast said). Shirley also loved classical music and opera, attending
many live shows, and listening to music at home with Tom. Supporting her passion for the arts, Shirley realized her dream of traveling with Tom to Europe on many occasions. Paris was their special place, and while Tom joked "it had the best gelato" (and Shirley
agreed), the history, architecture and beauty of the city captured her heart.

Shirley was beloved to many and was known for her kindness. She was a great listener, and her gentle soul often provided comfort, guidance, and support to those around her. She helped people realize their potential and accomplish their dreams. Shirley will be remembered by all as someone who gave of herself to help others, and
for her empathy, caring, and love for her family.

A memorial service is being planned.
