Susan always put other''s happiness ahead of her own. She lived her life with a quiet, calm strength. She allowed her children to make their own decisions and live their own lives, but was always available when needed.
Susan was born in Cleveland Ohio, the only child of William and Flora Strong - known to family and friends as Nana and Pop. A graduate of Shaw High School class of 51, she went on to work at and attend Case Western where she met Ron Conn, who at the time was teaching her class. They raised 2 boys - William and Steven - in Bainbridge Ohio.
The house in Bainbridge was always full of life. The house was built with an in-law suite for Nana and Pop - so that Susan could have them close and care for them - and a lot of land for her 3 dogs.
In her mid-fifties, with her boys out of the house, Susan decided to go back to finish school. She earned a Master''s Degree in Art Therapy from Ursuline College. She used that degree to go to work at Windsor Hospital - the job combined two of her loves - painting and helping others.
The family suffered in the 90''s with the loss of first Pop, then Ron and a few years later, Nana. Susan handled the loss of her husband just like she handled everything. She went on with her life and did not want to inconvenience her children. The family was very lucky when Phil Henley came into her life. Phil made her happy again, they traveled together, and ultimately they spent summers in Vermilion and winters in Tucson. Phil may be the only person better at putting others first than Susan - he put her first in nearly every decision he has made. There is an on-going joke among the family about Susan offering to split a dessert at dinner with Phil, then telling Phil which dessert he wanted.
Susan is survived by her sons William (fianc Wendy), Steven (Cathryne), Phil, and grand kids William, Nina, and Hunter who will miss her dearly.
Susan''s life will be celebrated at a family graveside service on 6/2 at 11:00am at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg, which is what she would have wanted.
