Susan Jarmon Nettles was born in Leighton, Alabama on May 8, 1927 to the late
Henry and Minnie Lee (Ingram) Jarmon. As a young woman she moved to
Cincinnati, Ohio where she met and married Joseph Nettles of Tunnel Springs,
Alabama. Ten (10) children were the result of their union. She moved with her
husband from Cincinnati, Ohio to Cambridge, Massachusetts where she was
employed at Sweetheart Cup Company for several years. She left her job to
become a full time homemaker to her family.
She later moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her husband where she embraced Christ
Jesus as her Lord and Savior attending Pilgrim Community Church and later,
Wings of Deliverance Temple. She loved and enjoyed quilting, re upholstering,
traveling and reading. Second to Christ, her family brought to her the greatest
joy, both near and far.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie Jarmon; daughter,
Charold Nettles; sisters Elizabeth King, Lula Mae Ford, Alma Davis, Ethel Oates
Berry and Phyllis Thompson and; brothers James Jarmon, Ester Jarmon, Earnest
Jarmon and Fred Jarmon.
She leaves behind many loved ones to cherish her memory: Rev. Joseph Nettles,
her husband of 65 years, her children, Shirley C.N. Smith (Doyle, Jr.) of Vernon
Hills, IL. , Charles A. Nettles of Cleveland, Ohio, Donald E. Nettles (Stacey) of
Cleveland Ohio, Carol J. Nettles of Chandler, Arizona, Steven T. Nettles of
Cleveland, Ohio, Kerry J. Nettles of Cleveland, Ohio, Melvin C. Nettles (Jackie) of
Cleveland, Ohio, Regina F. Nettles of Chandler, Arizona and Joseph J. Nettles, of
Chandler, Arizona. In addition, she leaves behind sisters Helen Jones of Cincinnati,
Ohio and Eva Jarmon of Sheffield, Alabama along with 17 grandchildren and 15
great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
